P&K Interview: Alexis Schoeb on the Aivi Luik case
Alexis has over 15 years’ experience advising and representing individuals, companies, and international sports organisations in international commercial and sporting disputes. For six years from 2018, Alexis was a listed arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and has sat in over 80 CAS proceedings. Before his listing as an arbitrator with CAS, he had acted as counsel in over 50 CAS cases. CAS, an independent institution that operates to facilitate the settlement of sports-related disputes through arbitration, does not permit arbitrators on its list to also appear as counsel in CAS proceedings and there are very few practitioners globally that have done both.
Alexis recently returned to practice as counsel in CAS proceedings and looks forward to bringing his experience and insight to client work. He will continue to accept arbitrator appointments from other institutional bodies.
Alexis leads a team of over ten sports arbitration specialists, located across Peter & Kim’s offices in Switzerland (Geneva and Zurich) and the Asia-Pacific (Seoul, Singapore, and Sydney). This unique team is equipped to handle sports disputes in more than eight languages, offers round-the-clock service coverage, and has expertise in both common law and civil law systems. The team offers extensive experience from working with CAS arbitrators, sports governing bodies, elite sports teams, and key stakeholders in the sports industry, including companies involved in sports sponsorship.
In this podcast, Alexis talks to Lawyers Weekly about the nature and challenges of sports arbitration practice, considers the growth that may be seen in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and provides advice to those interested in this area.
