Cameron Sim was delighted to moderate a lively panel discussion with Bernard Hanotiau, David W. Rivkin, Fatima Balfaqeeh and May Tai at the ADR in Asia Conference organised by HKIAC, held during Hong Kong Arbitration Week on 22 October 2025

The topic, The Evolving Role of Arbitral Institutions: Less is More?, was brought to life through audience voting during the session, with questions posed on issues such as whether institutions should perform a gatekeeper function upon case commencement, the level of scrutiny that institutions should apply to assess whether non-signatories are bound to arbitration agreements and whether institutions should have the power to override arbitrator nominations.

The conference’s dynamic program featured a Keynote Address delivered by The Honourable Madam Justice Mimmie Chan, Judge of the Court of First Instance, and Judge in charge of the Construction and Arbitration List of the High Court, along with sessions exploring a wide range of topics from the impact of global shifts on the practice of arbitration to insights from companies leading technological innovation.
